Army will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons to stop terrorism, sanction of Rs 15,935 crore
The Ministry of Defense has approved the purchase of 7.40 lakh assault rifles at the cost of 12,280 crore for all the three organs of the Army.
New Delhi: Ministry of Defense has approved the purchase of 7.40 lakh assault rifles for the cost of 12,280 crore rupees for all the three organs of the army. Army will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons to prevent intimidation and infiltration. The Ministry of Defense has approved about 16 thousand crores for this.

This decision was taken in the meeting of Defense Purchase Council (DAC) under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It was decided in the meeting that the Ministry of Defense would purchase light machine guns at a cost of Rs 1,819 crore. Apart from this, the proposal to purchase 5,719 sniper rifles at the cost of Rs 982 crore was also approved. Assault rifles will also be purchased at the cost of 12280 crores for the jawans deployed on the border. Officials said that 7.40 lakh assault rifles will be made in India only. Sniper rifles will be purchased from abroad.
Defense Minister visited Jammu
The Ministry of Defense has taken this decision in view of the ongoing attacks on militants in Jammu and Kashmir by the militants. Six soldiers of the army were martyred on Saturday 10th February in an attack on the Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu. 10 people were also injured in this attack. On Monday, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Jammu and reviewed the army's action against militants in Sunjwan. He also went to hospital to meet the injured people. The Defense Minister also met Chief Minister Mahbuba Mufti on the situation of the state.

While talking to reporters on his tour, he had said that there was strong proof of Pakistan's hand in the Sunjwan attack. They warned Pakistan that they have to pay it. Defense Minister had yesterday indicated that adequate arrangements for security in the army will be made. A day after this, on Tuesday, today they announced the purchase of state-of-the-art weapons.

Weapons not purchased from 11
Sources reveal that armed forces had demanded modern weapons 11 years ago. Our soldiers are using AK-47, indigenous INSAS (INSAS) and other small rifles since 1988. The demand to equip the troops deployed along the border with the state-of-the-art weapons to fight the enemy was long over. Government has approved the purchase of modern torpedo decoy system for Navy. This system is used to detect and target the incoming torpedoes for attack.
